Contaminates
The table below lists the shops in Manitoba that are approved to remediate vehicles exposed various types of contaminants. Not all approved shops can perform remediation on all vehicle types (for example, passenger vehicles, RV’s Motorhomes, etc.). You will need to contact the shop and confirm they will accept your vehicle type. The specific remediation process will depend on type of contaminate.
The following information is for Rodent Claims
The table below lists the shops in Manitoba that are approved to remediate vehicles exposed to rodent droppings. Not all approved shops can perform remediation on all vehicle types (for example, passenger vehicles, RV’s Motorhomes, etc.). You will need to contact the shop and confirm they will accept your vehicle type. Some of the shops also offer mobile services for rodent claims where they will travel to the customer’s vehicle and perform an inspection of the vehicle, eradicate any droppings or carcasses, disinfect the interior, and boroscope the vehicle’s vents (see the Mobile Service Area column).
Disinfecting Your Vehicle
Please make arrangements for a qualified commercial exterminator or remediation shop to complete the initial eradication and disinfecting of your vehicle or trailer. Most exterminators and many shops will attend your vehicle directly. However, if the temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius, mobile extermination and disinfection may not be possible. Please confirm this with your exterminator or remediation shop.
Following the extermination, we recommend that you take your vehicle to a qualified remediation shop to determine if your ventilation system is free of rodent infestation (if not done during the extermination).
Engine Compartment Infestation
Exterminators will remove nesting and apply disinfectant; however, if the infestation is in the engine compartment and requires the removal of major components, the vehicle will have to go to a remediation shop.
Recreational Vehicle (RV) or Trailer Claims
To make your RV or trailer safe, the exterminator or remediation shop will:
Bag any soft contents (clothes, bedding, etc.). You are responsible for disinfecting and cleaning these items.
Disinfect any hard contents (including dishes) that come into contact as part of the interior surface disinfecting. You are responsible for cleaning these items after the disinfecting process.
Disinfect any accessories that are part of the vehicle (mattresses, seat cushions, etc.).
Paying for Extermination/Remediation
You will be required to pay your deductible directly to the exterminator or remediation shop. Any additional fees above and beyond the deductible will be billed directly to MPI.
If your vehicle goes to both an exterminator and a separate remediation shop, please present your customer copy provided by the exterminator to the remediation shop for confirmation of deductible amounts collected and services provided.
Please see below for qualified exterminators and remediation shops. If you choose to have your vehicle towed directly to a remediation shop, you must select a shop close to the vehicle in order to control the costs of towing. MPI will cover the cost of one initial tow, and you will be required to pick up your vehicle from the shop once repairs are complete. Please note that the free initial tow does not apply to trailers. Since you do not need to enter the trailer to hook it up, you are expected to tow the unit to and from the remediation shop.
